How to Beat the Holiday Slump

With the holiday season in full swing, it can be a struggle to keep employees productive and motivated. But, where there’s a will, there’s a way! While it’s always nice to daydream about cookies and wonder when the snow will fall, we’re not sure employers want that happening every day from 9-5.

So, here are our tips to help get through the final weeks before the holidays!

Set new goals and plan ahead

The holiday season is a great time to recap the year and make sure all projects get completed. Take the time to meet with employees to listen to their feedback and reflections from the year. This is also a great time to plan ahead for the future and set goals for the New Year. By meeting with employees to discuss plans, goals, and objectives, this can help take away some of the stress they may be feeling. This can also be a great time to make sure employees know that their work has helped the company achieve its goals. Employees’ spirits are always higher when their work is being appreciated.

Make schedules more flexible

Even though the holiday season is filled with smiles, laughs and memories, stress skyrockets as employees become focused on the holiday season. Thoughts of decorating their homes, preparing for parties, and searching for gifts completely takeover. Permitting employees to run on a more flexible work schedule allows them to focus on completing their work during the day, since they can get everything else done during their personal time.

Boost Morale

Spice up the workplace and plan fun events! When the focus shifts from completing monthly reports to decorating the house, employees not only become distracted, but they become unmotivated as well. Adding in fun ideas during work hours allows employees to take a mental break and get into the holiday spirit! Every year at Target Media we have the 12 Days of Holidays. Some of our favorite activities include giving back to local charities, organizing an office potluck, having a casual dress down day, decorating the office, and even closing the office early!

Set the tone

How can your employees stay motivated if you yourself are not? Make sure you set the primary example and show employees that you are still working hard no matter how close you get to the holiday season. Remember, “Few things are harder to put up with than the annoyance of a good example” Mark Twain.
